directU South America iPhone app – Product Review

Posted: July 8, 2011 in Product Reviews, Tools

A few weeks ago while talking about iphone navigation apps, a couple of nice ladies riding bicycles suggested directU South America app. I have been using it ever since and it’s been great. The app is just under 400mb which is pretty small considering that all the SA maps are preloaded. The best part about the app is that it’s FREE. You can also use it on an iPod touch or iPad without a GPS. The app has great information in large cities and towns as well with streets showing names and numbers. Topographic information is also available.

Here is what the Apple App store has to say:

“South America – Offline map with directU – (free)” is a FREE offline map-browser application.
All map files are preloaded with full details. NO NEED FOR INTERNET CONNECTION WHILE USING THE APP.

Features:

– Trip computer (the following information can be displayed: speed, GPS coordinate, position accuracy, bee-line distance and elevation)
– Full iPhone 4 support (with retina display)
– iPad support
– Navigate using the TrueNorth feature in the compass
– Multitouch zoom added
– Search for cities
– Find the street nearest to your destination
– Advanced Search options
– Add locations to your Favorites
– Fresh OSM maps (for more info, visit http://www.openstreemap.com)
– Navigate and see real time how far away you are
